The Importance of Using Tested and Approved Disinfectants

Maintaining clean and hygienic environments is essential for protecting public health and preventing the spread of infectious diseases. Whether in homes, workplaces, healthcare facilities, or public spaces, effective disinfection plays a vital role in reducing harmful microorganisms and creating safer environments for everyone (Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, 2025). However, not all disinfectants offer the same level of protection. Choosing products that have been tested and approved by recognized authorities ensures that disinfection efforts are effective, reliable, and compliant with established health and safety standards. These approved disinfectants are scientifically proven to eliminate bacteria, viruses, and fungi, helping to reduce contamination risks while supporting healthier communities (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 2026), (World Health Organization. (2020)).

Following the Correct Disinfectant Method

Using the right disinfectant is only part of effective infection prevention. Proper application is equally important. Before applying any disinfectant, surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned

to remove dirt, dust, and organic matter that may reduce the product’s effectiveness (Centres for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2025). Once cleaned, a tested and approved disinfectant should be applied according to the manufacturer’s instructions, ensuring complete coverage of the surface. It is essential to allow the disinfectant to remain in contact with the surface for the recommended period to achieve maximum effectiveness (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. (2026)). When dilution is required, the correct ratio should always be used to maintain the product’s disinfecting power. In addition, appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and eye protection, should be worn to ensure safe handling (World Health Organization. (2020, May 16)).

A Reminder for Safe Practices

Using untested products or applying disinfectants incorrectly can create a false sense of security and leave harmful germs behind. Consistent adherence to approved disinfection procedures helps maximize protection, reduce the spread of infections, and maintain cleaner, healthier, and safer environments. Every individual and organization has a role to play in promoting good hygiene practices and safeguarding public health.

Effective disinfection starts with tested products and correct application methods. Choose quality, use correctly, and stay protected. Together, we can create cleaner, healthier, and safer environments for all.
